MATERIALS
. Unger's Swing, 17 (18-19) 1.7-oz. Balls
. Aluminum crochet hooks sizes I and J (5.50 and 6.00mm).
GAUGE: 17 sts = 6"; 16 rows = 9",
To Dec 1 St: Draw up a loop in each of 2 sts, yo and through all loops on hook.
SWEATER: BACK: Lower Band: With I hook, ch 10.
Row 1: Hdc in 4th ch from hook (counts as 2 hdc), hdc in each ch - 8 hdc. Ch 2, turn.
Row 2: Counting ch 2 as first hdc, * hdc around post of next hdc (yo, insert hook in sp before next st, bring hook across back of st and out in sp after st, draw up a lp and work off as a hdc), repeat from * across, end hdc in top of turning ch. Ch 2, turn.
Repeat row 2 until band measures 14" (15"-16"). Do not break off yarn.
Row 1: Work 52 (56-60) sc evenly spaced along side edge of band. Change to size J hook. Ch 3, turn.
Row 2: Counting ch 3 as first dc, dc in next st, * sk 1 st, dc in each of next 3 sts, long sc in skipped sc (passing hook in front of 3 dc, insert hook in skipped st and draw through a long loop to reach across 3 dc keeping yarn loose, work off as a sc), repeat from * across, end dc in each of last 2 sts. Ch 1, turn.
Row 3: Sc in each st across - 52 (56-60) sts. Ch 3, turn.
Row 4: Repeat row 2.
Row 5: Repeat row 3.
Row 6: Counting ch 3 as first dc, dc in next st, * sk 1 st, dc in next st, dc back in skipped st, repeat from * across, end dc in each of last 2 sts. Ch 1, turn.
Row 7: Sc in each st across - 52 (56-60) sts. Ch 3, turn. Repeat rows 2-7 for pat.
Work until piece measures 14½" from start, including border, or desired length to underarm, end row 2, 4 or 6. Check gauge; piece should measure 18¼" (19¾"-21¼") wide.
Shape Armholes: Next Row: Sl st across 3 sts, work to last 3 sts. Dec 1 st 1 st in from each side of next 2 rows - 42 (46-50) sts. Work until armholes measure 7¼" (7¾"-8¼") above bound-off sts, ending with a sc row. End off.
FRONT: Work same as back until armholes measure 5" (5½"-6") above bound-off sts, ending with a sc row - 42 (46-50) sts.
Shape Neck: Next Row: Work 15 (16-17) sts. Working on this side only, dec 1 st at neck edge on next 2 sc rows - 13 (14-15) sts. Work until armhole measures same as back to shoulder. End off. Return to last long row, sk center 12 (14-16) sts, join yarn and work other side to correspond, reversing shaping.
SLEEVES: Cuff: With I hook, ch 10. Work as for lower band on back until cuff measures 7" (7½"-8"). Do not break off yarn. Change to size J hook.
Row 1: Work 36 (38-40) sc evenly spaced along side edge of cuff. Ch 3, turn.
Row 2: Counting ch 3 as first dc, dc in next st, * sk 1 st, dc in next st, dc back in skipped st (cross st made), repeat from * across, end dc in each of last 2 sts. Ch 3, turn.
Row 3: Counting ch 3 as first dc, dc in each of next 2 sts, * cross st over next 2 sts, repeat from * across, end dc in each of last 3 sts. Ch 3, turn.
Repeat rows 2 and 3 for pat. Work until 17" from start or desired length to underarm. Check gauge; piece should measure 12¾" (13¼"-14") wide.
Shape Cap: Next Row: Sl st across 3 sts, work to last 3 sts. Work in pat until cap measures 5" (5½"-6") above bound-off sts. Ch 1, turn.
Next Row: Sc in every other st across row. End off.
FINISHING: Weave shoulder, side and sleeve seams, matching pat rows. From right side, with size I hook, work 1 row sc around neck edge, taking in slightly if necessary. Make sure opening goes over head easily.
Neckband: With size I hook, ch 6. Work as for lower band on back on 4 sts until band fits neck edge. End off. Weave band to neck edge, placing seam at center back. Weave back neckband seam. DO NOT BLOCK. ♥
