COILED RUG PATTERN DIY | TAPETE REDONDO

Easy to make no-sew yarn wrap coiling.

(38" diameter)

EASY: Achievable by anyone.

MATERIALS: 90 yds. of 1/2" diameter synthetic clothesline; 54 ozs. (total) of synthetic rug yarn; #16 blunt tapestry needle.

Note: To keep rug flat, work on a table top while coiling.

DIRECTIONS: 1. TAPER one end of the ropecore about ½". Thread the needle with yarn. Catching in the yarn-end, wind the yarn around the rope-core for 1" (see FIG. 7) leaving the ½" tapered end free (wrap the yarn to cover the core but do not pull too tightly; see Fig. 7).

2. CENTER: Turn down the tapered end of the core about ¾" and hold it in place. With the needle and ¾ yd. yarn, work figure-8's over and under from the core base to the tapered end, until the end is covered with yarn (see Fig. 8).

3. COILING: Coil the yarn covered end around to start the circular shape (if needed repeat another figure-8 to hold the first coil in place), then work three winds around the core and attach to the previous coil with a figure-8 on the fourth wind (see FIG. 9).

4. ADDING THE NEXT COLOR: Note: We used yarns in bright blue, gold, red, green, orange, brown and burgundy. Continue winding until there is only a 3" yarn-end of the first color left. Add another ¼ yd. length of color by laying yarn-ends one next to the other (see FIG. 10) and secure by winding new yarn over them. Repeat winding three times and working the figure-8 for the first 12-14 rounds of coils, then wind four times and make the figure-8 on the fifth wind. Continue winding the coils and changing the yarn colors until the desired diameter of the rug is reached.

5. ENDING OFF: When you have reached the desired diameter for the rug, taper the end of the core and attach it to the rug with the same color the taper abuts, using figure-8's to secure firmly. Thread the yarn back through the figure-8's, then cut it off.
