Regatta / Halter top - Vintage fashion


 Materials: Miss Canada Crochet-Knitting Wool”: 3 ozs. Sunstar (S); 1 oz. each: Turco Red (R), Emerald (G);

Two No. 10 Knitting Needles; Four No. 10 (points at both ends). 

Measurements: Bust 32/34 ins.

Tension: 8 sts. = 1 inch. 10 rows = 1 inch.

Check the Tension: Before beginning your garment take the wool and needles specified. Cast on 20 stitches, knit 20 rows in the stitch to be used and compare with the tension given in the instruction. If your Knitting is too loose try a size smaller needle. lf it is too tight try a size larger needle.


Abbreviations: 

K: knit plain; P: Purl; p.s.s.o.: pass slip stitch over; w.r.n.: wool round needle; wl. fwd.: wool forward; tog: together; ins.: inches; Dec.: decrease; Inc.: increase.


Left Front: Starting at lower left corner with (S) wool cast on 2 sts. 

Next row: Purl. 

1st row: Knit, inc. 1 st. in last st. 

2nd row: Purl, inc. 1 st. in last st. 

3rd row: As 1st row. 

4th row: Purl. 

5th row: Knit, inc. 1 st. in 1st and last sts. 

6th row: Purl. 

7th row: Knit, inc. 1 st. in last sts. 

8th row: Purl, inc. 1 st. in last st. Join (R) wool and repeat these 8 rows once. Continue repeating these 8 rows, working in the following stripes. 8 rows (S), (R), (S), (R), (S), (G), (S), (G), (S), (G), (S), 4 rows (R). (90 sts. on needle.) 

5th row: (R). Inc. 1 st. in 1st st. Knit to last 2 sts. K2tog. 

6th row: P2tog. Purl to end of row. 

7th row: Knit to last 2 sts. K2tog. 

8th row: P2tog. Purl to last st. Inc. 1 st. in last st. Join (S). Continue increasing at beginning of row, right side of work every 3rd row, and dec. 1 st. at other edge every row. Complete the (S) stripe then work 8 rows (R), (S), (R), (S), (G), (S), (G). Join (S) wool. Proceed:--

1st row: Knit to last 2 sts. K2tog. 

2nd row: P2tog. Purl to last 2 sts. P2tog. Continue decreasing 1st. each end of needle every row. Complete the (S) stripe. Work 8 rows (G). Join (S) and work sts. off. 


Right Front: Work exactly as for Left front being careful to have increasings and decreasings at opposite edge of work. 


Ties: (Make 2.) With (S) wool cast on 12 sts. Work in Garter st. full length of long edge of work and 5 ins. extra each end for ties at back. 


Collar:  With (S) wool and using 3 needles pick up 18 sts. each side of centre front seam, cast on 72 sts. (108 sts. divided on 3 needles). Working backwards and forwards work 2½ ins. ribbing (K2.P2). Cast off in ribbing.
