Green Knitting Shawl - Vintage pattern

 A beautiful shawl pattern, vintage from the 70's.

This soft green stole is simple to knit in fine yarn. The fringing adds a delicate touch. 

Size: 40 in square, excluding fringe.

Gauge: 7 sts and 9 rows to l in over st st worked on No. 4 needles.

Materials: 3-ply fingering yarn, 20 1 oz. balls; one pair No. 4 knitting needles (or Canadian No. 9); One No. D (3.00 mm) crochet hook.

Main section: Using No. 4 needles, cast on 280 sts.

Work in st st for 40in. Bind off. 

Edging: Using No. D hook and with RS facing, beg at a corner, work sc all around stole, join with ss to first st.

2nd round: *Ch7, skip 4sc, 1sc in next sc, rep from * all around, ending with ss in first of ch7.

3rd round: Ss to 4th of ch7, *ch7, 1sc in next loop, rep from * all around, ending with ss to first of ch7. Fasten off.

Finishing: Cut yarn into 14in lengths and taking 3 strands tog, knot into each loop all around the stole. Trim fringe evenly.
