Sizes: 12, 14 and 16 (Sizes 14 and 16 in parenthesis)
Materials: Pauline Denham FLEUR BLEUE, 5 (5-6) balls Main Color (MC) and 3 (4-4) balls Contrast Color (CC); No. 10 straight knitting needles (or whatever size necessary to maintain st gauge); 6 La Mode buttons.
Gauge: 4 sts= 1" (=2,54cm)
BACK
With MC, cast on 64 (68-72) sts. ** Work stockinette st (k 1 row, p 1 row) for 6 rows. Tie in CC. (Carry color not being used along side edge of work).
With CC, work 4 rows. * With MC, work 4 rows. With CC, work 4 rows. Repeat from * once more.
With MC, repeat from ** for entire jacket.
Work even in stripe pattern until piece measures 12" overall and 7th MC stripe is finished.
Shape Armholes: Cast off 4 sts once each end. Dec 1 st each end every other row 3 (4-4) times = 50 (52-56) sts. Work even until armhole measures 6 (6-6½)".
Shape Neck and Shoulders: Work across 17 (18-19) sts. Loosely cast off next 16 (16-18) sts. Finish row. Work the 2 sides separately. Cast off 2 sts beg of 1 row and 1 st beg of 1 row at neck edge.
At the same time, cast off 7 (8-8) sts beg 2 (1-2) rows and 0 (7-0) sts beg 1 row from armside.
LEFT FRONT
With MC, cast on 54 (58-62) sts. Work stripe pattern same as on back. When piece measures same as back to armhole,
Shape Armhole: Cast off 4 (5-6) sts at beg next k row (armside). Cast off 2 sts beg 3 rows and 1 st beg 2 rows at armside = 42 (45-48) sts. Work even until armhole measures 2½ (2½-3)" straight from start of shaping,
Shape Neck: Cast off 16 (17-18) sts beg one row, 3 sts beg 4 (3-4) rows and 0 (2-2) sts beg 0 (2-1) row at neck edge = 14 (15-16) sts for shoulder. When armhole is same as back,
Shape Shoulder: Same as back.
RIGH FRONT
Make same as left front, reversing shaping and making buttonholes as follows: On 3rd row of second MC stripe, working from front edge, k 3,* with a piece of string, k the next 3 sts, sl these sts back onto left-hand needle and with MC, k them again, * k 17 (18-19) and repeat from * to *, finish row. Repeat buttonholes 2 times more, on 3rd row of 5th MC stripe and on 3rd row of 8th MC stripe.
FINISHING
Block each piece. Split the remaining yarn and use only one ply for finishing. Weave shoulders tog. Weave side seams matching stripes and using matching color yarn for each stripe. With MC, work 1 row dc around armholes. Turn to inside and sew into place. With MC, work 1 row dc up fronts and around neckline. Turn to inside and sew into place. Work 1 row dc across lower edge catching back loop of sts only. Turn up and sew into place. Lap front and mark for placement of buttons. Sew on buttons.
